Are marshmallows vegan?
Traditional marshmallows are not vegan. They contain Gelatine which is made from collagen taken from the bones, hides and skin of animals, usually cows and pigs. Gelatine is used in marshmallows to help them keep their soft and chewy texture. Thankfully there are vegan alternatives so you can enjoy marshmallows without compromising on taste and flavour.
What are vegan marshmallows made of?
Vegan marshmallows typically contain Tapioca Syrup and starch, gelling agents, Carrageenan and Soy protein. These ingredients are used to achieve the texture and binding properties of traditional marshmallows without the use of gelatine.
Do vegan marshmallows melt?
Yes, vegan marshmallows melt just like traditional marshmallows. They are designed to be used in the same way.
How can you use vegan marshmallows?
Roast them over a campfire or melt them in the oven on a grill setting to make S'mores. Add them to cookies, brownies or cakes. Make a hot cocoa and use the minis as a topping. Melt the marshmallows with some chocolate and use as a fondue. They are also delcious to just eat straight out of the bag.
